Clemens

Clemens

Co-CEO and Founder

Clemens is the natural born mountaineer of the team. He still prefers to hike up crazy mountain faces on his skis instead of taking the easy way up with gondolas. Founding his first startup while still in college, his academic background (Master in International Economics) soon led him to work for Brazilian internet giant, UOL, before deciding to begin his next ascent with pik’d. Him and Moritz met during their studies and have ever since been close friends. GoPro® user for 4 years.

Moritz

Moritz

Co-CEO and Founder

Moritz is an absolute action sports enthusiast. Coming from the Austrian Alps, he started snowboarding at the tender age of 8. Today, he is one of the few Austrians to call themselves a surfer. He comes from a business background (Master in International Economics) and worked for Adidas before starting pik’d. He founded his first startup in Zimbabwe, Africa and came up with the idea of pik’d with Clemens after a ski trip to Italy. Moritz and Clemens run the business side of pik’d. GoPro® user for 5 years.

Hannes

Hannes

Algorithms Engineer, Founder

Hannes was born in Lower Austria, which did not prevent him from growing a huge passion for BMX and downhill biking. He is the youngest member of pik’d, but definitely not any less talented. He combines his programming skills with an incredible in depth knowledge of hardware engineering. He runs the hardware side of pik’d and is the “perfectionist” of our team. His profound knowledge of Sports Equipment technology is an essential asset for pik’d. He’s just one of those Austrian engineers that every team needs.
GoPro® user for 4 years.

Pablo

Pablo

Algorithms Engineer

A sociable geek that does sports. Encompassing the most diverse set of skills of the team, Pablo is an indispensable ingredient to the software side and an incredibly valuable consultant to the hardware side. His machine learning skills are second to none in the field. In case you bump into him, beware of bad jokes. GoPro® user for 3 years.

Ricardo

Ricardo

Software Engineer

Sometimes not sure if computer or human, Ricardo manages to keep razor sharp focus even with several tasks on his plate. He is constantly adding amazing new features to pik’d while keeping it easy as pie and trust us, Ricardo couldn’t be more sophisticated when it comes to pie.

Cristóbal

Cristóbal

Software Engineer

Our newest addition to both office and team sports activities ensures that the pik’d software is 100% intuitive and fun for all our users. He has the ability to approach a task from different angles simultaneously, which helps him find creative solutions for difficult problems.
Creator of the infamous “Hannes Slider”… don’t worry you’ll read about it in the news.

Sebastián

Sebastián

Software Engineer

Another newcomer and rising pik’d hero. Sebastián lets his programming speak for him, to a point where most people can’t keep up and just have to accept that it magically works. You may think his nickname “14” would give him tons of street credibility, but in fact, he earned it from a perfect score during a math competition where his starting number was 14. Although, he still prefers to tell people he got it from the streets, instead of from a math contest.

FAQs

FAQs

Q: What is pik’d?

A: pik’d is a hard- and software solution that finds highlights in GoPro® videos automatically. The hardware is a precise motion tracker that attaches to the back of your GoPro® camera (generation 3 and newer). You can upload videos to pik’d software and our algorithms will find and mark highlights in your videos within the blink of an eye. No more hours spent in front of the PC to go through footage manually. You can now easily save and/ or share your best moments.

Q: When and where can I buy pik’d?

A: We are working on it and it will be available very soon. Sign up here to make sure you don’t get left out.

Q: How much will pik’d cost?

A: pik’d will sell at a retail price of 99US$. However, if you sign up now, you will be able to buy pik’d at an amazing price of only 70US$, so don’t waste time. Sign up here.

Q: What’s the magic behind pik’d – How does it work?

A: Simply attach pik’d to your camera and while you are out there having fun, pik’d senses all your movements and collects an ultra-precise set of metrics from your performance.

We have collected thousands of hours of data for each sport and used a combination of machine learning techniques to derive algorithms that can tell you exactly when something exciting is happening.

As soon as you connect your GoPro to the computer, a background process of our software automatically syncs the videos with the correlating data and filters only your best moments within a few seconds. pik’d delivers highlights at an accuracy that is second to none.

For all action sports geeks out there, if you want to get more information about the technology behind pik’d, shoot us an e-mail: contact@pikd.co

Q: Is pik’d software free?

A: Yes, you can download it for free for Mac and Windows, but you will only be able to take full advantage of it in combination with our hardware.

Q: Why is pik’d better than software-only video highlight solutions?

A: Software-only solutions work with image analysis, which is fine for videos that are shot with your smartphone or traditional camera. However, GoPro® footage is very different from your everyday smartphone video and therefore, pure image analysis doesn’t get the job done but pik’d does!

Q: Why not use sensors of smartphones?

A: Other smartphone apps that try to solve similar problems rely heavily on the GPS in your phone  and we all know how annoying and battery consuming this is. Plus, you would have to make sure your phone is well sync’d to your camera anytime, which is a pain. You use your GoPro® in extreme situations and the last you want to do is have to take care of another device while preparing for some action. pik’d lets you focus on the important stuff.

Q: How do I use the hardware?

A: pik’d attaches to the back of the camera, so you don’t need to worry about it anymore. It doesn’t even have an on/off button, because it knows when to record. Check out our intro video to see how to use pik’d.

Q: What’s the major benefit of pik’d?

A: You can save both the time you usually spend cutting footage and space on your drives. pik’d keeps only the best moments and gets rid of the boring stuff in no time. You will have way more time doing what you love once you don’t have to do the dirty work anymore. Let pik’d do it.

Q: What is a highlight?

A: For now, pik’d focuses on motion-related highlights. That means pik’d won’t be able to find a sunset or that pretty girl in your video (for now) but pik’d will capture all the action.

Q: Can I share my highlights?

A: Absolutely! pik’d software makes it really easy for you to share highlights in all popular social medias. You will also have the option to do some basic editing and add a soundtrack.

Q: Can I export my highlights locally?

A: Yes. No problem at all.

Q: What about cloud connection?

A: We have made it easy as pie to integrate with your existing cloud accounts on Dropbox, Google and Amazon. Simply select your best shots and pik’d automatically syncs them to the cloud so you can access them from anywhere and across all devices later on.

Q: For which sports does it work?

A: pik’d will work for skiing, snowboarding, surfing, BMX/ Downhill, Motocross for now. More sports to be added soon.

Q: How much does pik’d hardware weigh?

A: pik’d is so light that you won’t even feel it, it only adds a minimal amount of weight.

Q: Do I need to buy an extra housing to make it waterproof?

A: pik’d fits perfectly in the Battery BacPac housing for all GoPro® generations newer than the GoPro® 3. However , we will still ship an extra housing made by pik’d at no additional cost.

Q: Does it need a housing?

A: Housing is necessary to keep it waterproof and shock resistant, but it doesn’t need a housing to work. If you want to keep things light you can always attach pik’d to the camera and use it without the housing.

Q: How long does the battery last and how do I charge it?

A: The battery lasts  5 hours and can be recharged via mini-usb in no time. pik’d was built to last at least double the time of the GoPro®.

Q: What about a mobile app?

A: Mobile app is in the pipeline and will be available for free for iOS and Adroid soon. Stay tuned and sign up here.

Q: Facebook page?

A: Right here. Like our page.

Q: More questions?

A: Email us and ask us at contact@pikd.co

story

story

Our story starts in April 2013. It had been dumping snow for weeks when we decided to hit the Dolomites with a bunch of friends and were welcomed by epic snow conditions.

We all brought our GoPros® and upon returning home, the plan was to create a short clip to remember this journey. However, we had collected more than 1 Terabyte of raw footage and nobody had time to cut or edit it.  After reaching out to more than 100 GoPro® users around our hometown, Innsbruck, a sports addicted city in the central alps, we realized that this was an immanent problem within the community. We researched a couple of software-only solutions with the conclusion that nothing satisfied our need. With the help of a great group of friends and athletes, we ultimately decided to take on the challenge ourselves, and pik’d was born.

Fast forward two years pik’d is about to get real. With the support of Google, and accelerators in Austria and Chile, we have been developing an awesome product that you will love.

Initially planned as a short term stay, the unbeatable natural diversity of Chile and the abundance of action sports enthusiasts have proven to be the perfect testing ground for our project. With athlete teams lined up across all sports we decided  to set base in this country, which probably makes us the first Austrian-Chilean start-up on the planet based in Vienna, Austria and Santiago, Chile.

Our mission is to facilitate quality content generation by creating tools that allow for automation. We build technologies with this goal in mind.

With the help of pik’d, cameras will be able to decide what moments are worth capturing and start recording them automatically. Think of it as a brain for POV cameras.

We see this as a crucial step to remove the barriers between living the actual moment and sharing them with the people you love.
